Benvic builds its medical brand
Benvic, Europe’s leader in PVC compounds and ecological biopolymers, has this month acquired Luc & Bel, an innovative plastics processor, expert in the design and manufacture of complex medical components under Class 8 cleanroom conditions.
The acquisition has been enabled by Benvic’s owner Investindustrial, and allows Benvic to further strengthen the Benvic Medical division – suppying manufacturing materials, services and products to the world’s medical and healthcare markets.
Benvic has been steadily building its medical company portfolio over the past 18 months. Last year, the company acquired Modenplast, an important and significant player in the extrusion of formulations, tubes and tubulars for medical use.
Luc Mertens, CEO of Benvic, says that ‘we are very pleased to continue our medical growth strategy with Luc & Bel. PVC plays a fundamental role in all parts of this sector and that is why we are taking a significant stake in medical forward integration and preparing to launch Benvic Medical in support of all our businesses and their medical manufacturing services.’
Mertens adds that ‘at a time when the Covid 19 world is sorely in need of know-how, we at Benvic will bring our in-depth materials expertise to all kinds of medical solutions.’
Mertens says that ‘we are also confident that Luc & Bel, with its highly technological and innovative business model, will provide great added value to our group and to our customers.’
Luca Ferrari, founder of Luc & Bel, remains CEO of the company and minority partner together with the rest of the management team.
Ferrari says that ‘we are thrilled to have joined the Benvic Group and all the new synergies that will follow on, together with a strengthening of Luc & Bel's international position.’
In the coming months Benvic Medical is set to roll out further details of all its technologies and capabilities in medical technology across the group - materials design and medical plastics processing, injection moulding, tubing and profile extrusion and other medical specialties.
This month’s acquisition of Luc & Bel is the seventh from Benvic in recent months. Of these seven, four took place in the Emilia Romagna area of Northen Italy, a region where Benvic already has a strong manufacturing presence.
